Our Directing Team

Our Director, Steve Morin, first attended a regular Salem chapter meeting with his father, Bob in 1978. At the young age of fifteen he joined the Barbershop Harmony Society and has gone “full speed ahead” ever since.

Steve’s first job in front of a chorus came as Assistant Director of the Salem Chorus from 1984 to 1987. After moving to Portland he was awarded the Musical Director position with the West Portland Chapter and began to concentrate on developing his skills as a top-notch director. He directed the West Portland Vocal Gentry to two 2nd place finishes in the Pacific Northwest Evergreen District Chorus Competition.

In 1989 Steve moved back to the Salem area and was handed the Musical Directorship of the Salem Chorus. Since that time Steve has led the Oregon SenateAires mens chorus to the most 1st place championships in the history of the Evergreen District competition. In his illustrious career with the Oregon SenateAires, spanning 1997 – 2017, Steve has directed the chorus to 13 championships and qualified the chorus for international competition 15 times.

The highlight of Steve’s directing career occurred in 2012 Steve when Steve lead the chorus to a 5th place metal at the World Barbershop Chorus Championships. Quite a feat for a director contributing musical excellence to the small community of Salem, Oregon.

Besides directing, Steve is also a very talented and accomplished singer. He is a member of Q.C.E.D., the Quartet Champions of the Evergreen District. Steve qualified for membership to this club by winning the Evergreen District contest in 1988 with Four Cryin’ Out Loud. He has also been a member of one of the District’s youngest and most exciting quartets, DICE, 1997 Evergreen District Division 4 Champions and a 2nd place finish at District in 1997. Steve joined a very talented group of guys to sing with Sold Out and placed in the top 20 at the 2004 World Quartet Contest. Steve once again won the district contest with Quadraphonics in 2011. He is currently singing bass with a top 5 quartet Local Boyz. Other quartets he has been a member of include, Ring Masters, Capitol City Sound, Members Only, Harmony Heights, Done Deal and The Alliance.

We are so fortunate to have Steve as our Musical Arts Director. His hard work, dedication and desire to be the best we can be contributes much to music education in the community and leads us to bigger and better things every year.

Will Fox is an extremely busy and sought after music teacher and barbershop director and coach. He teaches all things music at Westside Christian High School in Tigard, Oregon, where his Concert Choir has won the OSAA 3A Choir State Championships for the past eleven consecutive years and Soli Deo Gloria, his one auditioned small ensemble, recently won third place at the Oregon State Small Ensemble Championships and has won the Pleasant Hill Jazz Festival each of the past four years. In addition to three choir classes, Will teaches a contemporary worship team class called Ignite, and he started a Concert Band program. He also is involved in the school’s musicals. Will owns a private music studio, Music at Will, where he teaches voice, piano, and guitar. Will also serves on the board of Oregon’s American Choral Directors Association as the High School Repertoire and Resource Chair and is a certified choral adjudicator/judge, working with many choirs/ensembles/choruses/quartets throughout the year.

As a young guy in the late 70’s/early 80’s, Will sang in the quartet, Brothers and Others, 2nd place at District in 1981, and competed in three internationals and was part of four district championships with the Rose City Close Harmony Music Men chorus. Regrettably out of barbershop for the next 35 years, Will was asked a few years ago to help direct and coach the Oregon SenateAires Chorus as Associate Director. He most recently helped the SenateAires win the Evergreen District Chorus Championship last October. He is singing Lead in a quartet, Willpower, and enjoys the privilege of coaching many quartets and choruses/choirs. Finally, Will has a passion for helping people of all ages to gain a voice and to use that voice to fill the world with harmony!
