Who are the SenateAires?
We are an a cappella men’s chorus with members from all over Oregon and parts of Washington and recognized internationally since 1964. We rehearse and perform a variety of music in the Barbershop style, an a cappella style which is uniquely suited to men’s voices. More importantly, this music just as enjoyable to listen to as it is to perform!
We practice weekly, building our musical range and our skills as musicians and performers, and having a great time along the way.
We perform about once a month: in our own shows, in other hosted events, and in regional and national competitions.
How can I become a SenateAire?
STEP 1 … is to come visit! All of our rehearsals are open to guests. Call and we’ll give you details about our next rehearsal. Our typical rehearsal schedule is 7:30 pm on Thursday nights. We meet at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Salem (Google Map Link).
You’re welcome to sit and listen, but the best thing to do is jump up on the risers with us! We’ll provide you with sheet music so you can learn the music along with the chorus. In the Barbershop style your vocal range and technical ability will place you as a Tenor, Lead, Baritone, or Bass. If you’re not sure, that’s OK — we’ll help!
STEP 2 … is to be placed by our music team. Most likely, we’ll have you sing a selection from some easy-to-learn Barbershop tunes in a brief, private audition.
STEP 3 … when you’ve attended for a few weeks and are ready, we’ll extend a formal invitation for you to join us in harmony as a full member of the Barbershop Harmony Society and our chapter. (There is a modest membership fee.)
From then on, you’ll enjoy fellowship, performance opportunities, and fun of being part of a vital American musical tradition that will inspire you and your audiences for years to come.
Come down and sing with us!Welcome New Singers! We are always looking for men of all ages who love to sing, and we would love to have you come sing with us.
