Social Insecurity

Social Insecurity

Formed in May of 2009, this quartet immediately won the Oregon Senior Barbershop Quartet competition. They followed that with a win at the Evergreen District Senior Quartet competition in Whistler, British Columbia. They are honored to have been awarded 4th place bronze medals in the Barbershop Harmony Society's Mid-Winter convention in Tampa, Florida in January 2010.

Baritone: Kevin Stephens

Kevin (along with countless others) was the former lead of McKenzie Touring Company and has been given the opportunity to perform with many talented individuals throughout his musical experience. Kevin has an extensive barbershop and acapella background and was one of four vocalists to open the Colorado Symphony season. Kevin and his wife Nancy live in Salem, Oregon. They have a daughter graduated from Oregon State, a son graduated from University of Oregon, one child in Ashland and another in Texas.

Lead: Bob Martindale

Bob has been barbershopping since 2001 and was previously the lead singer (one of the “countless others”) for the comedy quartet, McKenzie Touring Company. Bob has extensive stage and theatrical experience and got his start in Barbershop while playing the part of Mayor Shinn in The Music Man. Bob and his wife Teresa live in Cottage Grove, Oregon and they share 3 children, eight grandchildren, one great grandchild and one Dachshund puppy named Magnolia.

Bass: Marty Anderson

Marty has been singing bass since high school, through 20 years in the Air Force, barbershopping since 1997 and previously singing with After Five, a Barbershop Quartet out of Eugene. Marty is the baby of the group and we had to wait for him to get "old" enough so we could include his great bass voice in our seniors quartet. Marty and his wife Dana live in Eugene, Oregon and, along with the rest of the quartet, are huge Oregon Duck fans!

Tenor: Gary Raze

Gary, with many years as tenor in the comedy quartet McKenzie Touring Company, is currently also singing tenor with Overtime, 2000 International Seniors Champions. You might recognize Gary from his stint as the crazy guy in the Les Schwabb battery commercials a few years back. Gary and his wife LeAnne live in Elmira, Oregon. They have two children and 3 grandchildren.

Harmony Road

Harmony Road

The quartet was formed in 2018 and has been diligently working on their craft since that time. The best of friends, they have performed in venues all over the area, spreading the joy of harmony throughout the community.

Tenor: Aaron Cermak

Aaron first heard Barbershop Harmony when his high school choir was invited to sing on a SenateAires show, and he decided he would join as soon as he could. Aaron has been singing with the SenateAires chorus for 32 years as a bass and a tenor. He has also sung with several quartets since 1998 when he first went to an International contest with the chorus. A native to the Salem area, Aaron has sung in venues around the area from chorus shows to solo gigs in for events such as weddings or church services. When not singing, Aaron provides computer support and loves to help people with technical issues. He also enjoys computer gaming. Aaron grew up on a farm at his grandparents’ homestead in Timberland which he still owns and maintains.

Lead:  Lynn Turner

Lynn has been barbershopping since 1983. After singing with the Salem SenateAires for a few years, he decided to try singing in a quartet. He sang lead in Ringmasters, Full House (placed 7th in District), Somewhere in Time (1st place division contest) and Time after Time (District Senior Champs 2009) and, lastly, Wink and a Smile. Time after Time placed 11th at International competition in 2009.   Lynn performed twice as the part of the school board quartet in The Music Man. Lynn and his wife Judy live in Salem Oregon and have three children between them, 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and a Shih Tzu named Lolly.

Baritone: Scott Chatten

Scott Chatten started singing barbershop in his early twenties and has been involved in quartets for most of that time. He began singing with The Monterey Cypressaires where he sang baritone due to his ability to read music and the fact that the baritone section only had one or two others singing in it. After singing in Monterey for a few years, Scott left the chorus to join the US Navy. After his time in the Navy Scott relocated to Florida where he sang with the Gainesville and Jacksonville chapters. In 2015 Scott moved back to the west coast to be near family, eventually settling in Corvallis Oregon. His first week in Corvallis he showed up at a SenateAires rehearsal in Salem and has been singing with them ever since. Shortly after joining the Salem chapter, he met Lynn and Ken where he found an instant connection. Soon after that Harmony Road was born.

Bass: Ken Daniels

Ken has been a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society since the age of 24.  Throughout the years he has competed and sung all 4 parts in various quartets and had the good fortune to sing tenor at an International Contest in Hartford Connecticut.  Ken has sung with lead Lynn Turner for the last 25 years.  Ken sang bass with Lynn when they placed 11th in the Seniors Quartet International Competition.  Ken is quoted as saying, “Harmony Road is lucky, as we are all good friends and get along well and enjoy quartet practice as well as singing for others.  Working at our craft is just as enjoyable as performing it.”
